About Us

For over five decades, Ed Hamburger has been a dominant force in the automotive performance industry. From his early days in drag racing to founding Specialty Vehicle Engineering, Hamburger’s journey is a testament to innovation, engineering excellence, and a relent-less pursuit of high-performance automotive solutions.

Ed Hamburger’s career began in 1970, leveraging his extensive drag racing experience and his induction into the NHRA NED Drag Racing Hall of Fame. His first business specialized in performance engine, transmission, and suspension components for small-block Chrysler race cars, becoming one of the country’s first Chrysler Direct Connection Performance Parts Distributors. In 1975, he founded Hamburger’s Oil Pans, which dominated NASCAR Cup and NHRA Drag Racing for over two decades. By the time he sold the company in 1995, his oil pans were used in over 85% of race cars, setting records and winning races nationwide.

Following the sale of his Chrysler performance parts business in 1987, Hamburger established Street Legal Performance (SLP), pioneering emissions-legal performance upgrades. SLP’s 1988 integrated performance package for the V8 Camaro and Firebird was a groundbreaking success, earning a nomination for Best New Product at the 1989 SEMA Show. Expanding into specialty vehicle manufacturing in 1992, SLP partnered with GM to produce over 55,000 limited-edition specialty vehicles, including the Camaro SS and Firehawk. With the return of the Camaro in 2008, Hamburger’s company developed performance upgrades for the fifth generation model, selling out the ZL 575 Supercharged Camaro instantly. In 2013, he entered the supercharger market, designing an emissions-certified centrifugal supercharger for GM’s direct-injection V8 engines, which became a standard feature in their high-performance trucks and SUVs.

To better reflect its expanding operations, Hamburger rebranded the company as Specialty Vehicle Engineering in 2014. Shortly thereafter, the company diversified its offerings by developing supercharger solutions for Jeep and Dodge vehicles under the
Hamburger’s Specialty Vehicles (HSV) brand.

Today, led by Ed's son David Hamburger, Specialty Vehicle Engineering continues to push the boundaries of automotive performance, producing extreme muscle cars such as the 750 HP AWD Syclone, the 1500HP Stage III Yenko/SC® Camaro, and the 1250HP Twin Turbocharged YENKO/SC® C8 Corvette. Several of these vehicles have graced the cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, highlighting their impact on the high-performance automotive market. From pioneering emission-legal performance packages to develop-ing some of the most powerful specialty vehicles in the industry, Ed Hamburger’s legacy is one of innovation, engineering excellence, and an unwavering passion for performance. As Specialty Vehicle Engineering continues to evolve, it remains a leader in the world of high-performance specialty vehicles, setting new standards for automotive enthusiasts and collectors alike.
